Mitigating Circumstances Procedures

Late coursework submission

Students should submit coursework within 10 working days of the published submission dates, if they are unable to submit coursework by the deadline.

In this instance, the mark for the assessment will be limited to the module pass mark, but an uncapped mark will also be shown on the coursework.

Where students submit valid mitigating circumstances within 10 working days of the published submission dates, the original mark will be reinstated and the cap lifted.

Students with valid extenuating circumstances who are not able to submit their first attempt within 10 working days will be given a Deferral in the affected artefact.

Coursework submitted more than 10 working days after the published submission date will not be marked and will be recorded as a non-submission.

The above only applies to First Attempts and not to Deferrals

What are mitigating circumstances?

Students should follow the mitigating circumstances procedures if they have a valid reason for not submitting coursework by the due date.

Mitigating circumstances are short-term circumstances that impact your ability to complete your assessment by the submission deadline.

You may need to supply evidence for the issue affecting you, such as a medical certificate or confirmation from a professional who is supporting you.
